THE SISTERHOOD CIRCLE, TUESDAYS 12.30-2.30pm, 2019

Weekly workshops for women of all ages*.

Sisters, wives, mothers, daughters… women of west Norfolk and beyond!

Introducing The Sisterhood Circle at West Acre Gallery.

This nourishing weekly 2-hour session invites women of all ages to connect and reflect, inspire creativity, share ideas, socialise and exchange skills in a collaborative and nurturing space.

We’ll be switching off phones and indulging in some old school, hands-on arts and crafts. Some sessions will involve structured workshops led by Norfolk’s most inspiring women; some sessions will be total freeflow.

Hone your craft, learn new skills, and celebrate the individuality, creativity, community, beauty, entrepreneurship and empowerment of the sisterhood!

£5 pp. Tea, coffee and cake provided.

Pre-crawling babies and their mummies most welcome – sorry no toddlers or children.

*THE SISTERHOOD CIRCLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN OUR 2020 PROGRAMME. THESE WORKSHOPS MAY RESUME AGAIN IN 2021 – WATCH THIS SPACE FOR FUTURE DATES.

AUTUMN 2019 PROGRAMME

Tuesday 1 October: Swishing! + Creative freeflow

Have you had a creative idea that never moved into actual conception? Or giddily started a project that petered to stagnation? Bring your idea or project to this freeflow session, away from the distractions of home, and get creative in an inspiring and supportive setting. And while you’re here why not rustle up a new wardrobe! We’ll be Swishing (clothes swapping). It’s retail therapy with a conscience. Simply bring any clothes, shoes or accessories you no longer want, swap them, and take home a stylish bargain!

Tuesday 8 October: ‘Write Now’ with romantic fiction novelist Sue Welfare

A practical writing workshop to help you find your creative voice, exploring the stories you long to tell, the ideas you’d like to pass along, and the thoughts you’d like to express on the page. Using short writing exercises we’ll discover some of the tools you need to tell your own story. Those taking part should be happy to write and read their work aloud to the group. Please bring along writing materials, pen, paper or pencils. No laptops or phones please.

Tuesday 29 October: Monoprinting with artist Sue Welfare

Using a range of mark-making tools, torn paper stencils, natural objects and recycled plastic sheets, we will be exploring monoprinting and monotypes. Those taking part are invited to bring along leaves, grasses, lace, doilies, fabric, and any paper they would like to experiment printing with or on. Please wear old clothes or an apron – printing is a messy business!

Tuesday 5 November: Mosaics with artist Carolyn Ash

Exploring colour, you will be designing and making your own memory mosaic on wood, or an object of your choice, and learning mosaic techniques using recycled china, buttons, natural materials and broken jewellery. All materials will be provided, but you can also bring your own treasure to recycle, and create a beautiful memory from something broken.

Tuesday 19 November: Rag Rugging with Sue Welfare

Rag rugging is the perfect way to upcycle old fabric and give it a new life. Those clothes that have worn through in places, or t-shirts that have gone baggy in the wash, are perfect for rag rugging. We’re going to be working on a small sample piece to learn this old craft. Tools and backing materials provided. If you have an old t-shirt or two that you don’t want then please feel free to bring them along to cut up and share.
